[ Magic and souls and psychic powers are all pretty strange to Shadow.

Then again, so is changing into a weird monster, encountering strange shrines in the woods, and getting so attached to a random bike he was ready to fight people over it.

So while Shadow looks a little puzzled over the explanation, he accepts it easily enough. ]
