The claws are not non-threatening. The werewolf crouches a little, as if prepared to spring, a low growl starting up in his throat and sharp, bloodies claws of his own crooked and ready. He doesn't leap yet, because John is still speaking quietly rather than lunging, but any little thing might set him off.

He definitely does not look like he's going to be going anywhere with John without being dragged.
