This is different than when Serph climbed in beside him. All of this is new to John: the weight of another body on the mattress, the way Jack looks at him in the low light. He is more aware of the space between them after a night spent with Serph's wings curled warm over his shoulder and hip.
He doesn't really know what to do with himself. But the relief in Jack's voice is nice to hear, and it sounds nothing at all like the sounds made by the wolf. John lets his eyes fall shut for a little while. He can lie still and listen to their breathing.
