"All sorts of things. Sometimes it was harvesting, sometimes it was cleaning, sometimes it was child care or fixing a car. Usually just whatever needed doing that I was nearby enough to help with," Jack shrugs, sweeping the intact jars and bottles into his bag. This will make porridge so much tastier, and also help with his attempts at cooking for Serph!

Clearly he did not in fact have a career or specific job he preferred. There are jobs he's not fond of-- animal care, some kinds of cleaning-- but he doesn't mind most things. The idea of just having one thing you "do" is alien to someone two hundred plus years old without a stable home address.

He turns away from the kitchen with a smile, pleased with the find. "Let's check the bedrooms and then we can go," he suggests.
