Jack would prefer not to risk it with anyone, no matter how fond he believes he might be of them. He's only had it work twice, after all, in all of two hundred plus years of this curse. And eye contact helps, too, but he's also not going to ask that of the person who continues to avoid looking at anyone except through a helmet.
