It wasn't supposed to elicit anything negative, that heaviness seeping into Donnie like a fog. He tries to swallow it down, hating himself for ruining the mood with something so careless.
But Leo sounds the same, and he wonders how many times they've gone through such verbal fencing and he not realized he might have actually hurt his brother in some way or another?
Donnie forces out a snort, trying to ignore it, but he's back to hunching over again, his wings folding back against him, compact as they allow. "Well, I'll just have to either find an abandoned skateboard or the parts to make one," he says dismissively, trying to hang onto that mien of indifference, but neither is he exaggerating about trying to build something for his brother. Maybe in this place it seems a ridiculous notion, but if they don't try to have some fun somehow, then...
He knows there's some logic to that thought but he can't really put it into words right then.
