At first, control over his body slips, sensation torn from his ability to respond. The disconnection of nerve and muscle from brain signals is akin to a puppet's strings being cut. Serph knows this feeling; Sera had once exerted her powers over him, her control over his body so absolute that even gravity failed to override her.

The difference between Sera and Hiskott, however, is that Hiskott is here with him. Meaning Hiskott is here with Varuna.

The demon is like a maddened beast, snarling and snapping at all within reach. Varuna resists control not because he desires freedom but because he devours all in his path. And when Hiskott is busy fighting Varuna, whose constant litany of eat them all slams against all consciousnesses trapped with him, Serph is reaching to wrest control back while Hiskott's attention is split towards his demon.
