Jack gives up on even trying to wriggle away when she slams him against the wall, a little stunned but mostly aware there's nothing he can do without actually hurting her, and he refuses to do that. The phantom fire doesn't even hurt her when it flickers around her hand on his throat, it just cushions the blow, like a barrier of soft air between her and the muzzle she tries to smack.
