"It is the way it should be," Jack says. "Death is part of the same cycle as life. When something dies, it becomes food for something else-- not just monsters or people, like here or in your world. There are small animals and plants that feed on the dead, that then can feed the living in turn." He tilts his head, ears skewed. "But losing life is frightening. Especially for the people left behind. So we make traditions, gather together, and celebrate to make it less awful to be left."
