If Zack's eyesight wasn't so preternaturally sharp, now, he'd definitely miss that incredibly subtle, almost-not-there shift - but even in the dark, even out of the corner of his eye, it seems obvious.

Though catching it is also a bit redundant, given the unexpected introduction. He'd have taken that for a not-confession of momentary understanding, either way (and does).
