Mm, [he nods,] it took a little getting used to, at first. My hometown is pretty small, you can walk or bike everywhere, so I always walked to school, before Tokyo. [He rubs a hand over the back of his head and smiles sheepishly at her.] I might’ve missed my stop and got turned around a time or two. But I got used to it.

[Ren takes a seat at the water’s edge and dips a hand in to check the temperature. He’s looking away from the reflection, so he doesn’t notice the scene that forms after he withdraws his hand:

A dark-haired man with glasses in a suit stands in front of dozens of microphones. There’s no sound to indicate what this apparent press release is about, but he pauses in whatever speech he’s giving to bow deeply in apology before continuing to speak, answering questions from reporters.

The man then stops, clutches at his chest, face contorted in obvious pain, and collapses face down on the table before him. He struggles to pull himself upright again, and when he does, his eyes are rolled back into his head, and black fluid trickles down his face, from out of his eyes, nose, and mouth.

Another man steps in front of the table and waves his arms, and the scene cuts to a screen advising viewers of technical difficulties.

The scene then starts over again, exactly the same as before, looping over and over without pause.]
